Loveland

Welcome to Loveland

French fur trappers first passed through the Loveland area in the late 1700’s. Mariano Medina, a scout from Taos, founded Fort Namaqua in 1858 in the Loveland area and operated a trading post and stage station. With the arrival of the Colorado Central Railroad, Loveland was incorporated in 1877, being named after William Loveland, the president of the railroad.

In the 1980’s, a group of local sculptors collectively presented their artworks. This initial effort resulted in today’s Benson Park Sculpture Garden, Chapungu Sculpture Park and the McWhinney-Hahn Sculpture Park! Amazing for a city of 75,000 residents.

The Loveland area is also known for the Great Outdoors. Close-by you will find the iconic Devil’s Backbone Open Space, The Ransey-Shockey Open Space, Boyd Lake State Park, Pinewood Reservoir, and Carter Lake Reservoir. The Loveland Recreation Trail is a gentle 23-mile trail that circles the entire town of Loveland.

When it’s time to relax from the Great Outdoors, you will find an abundance of restaurants and craft beer brew pubs, together with local retail shops.

Loveland is sure to bring out the adventurer in you!
